Towson Families United is a coalition of parents and residents seeking a long-term solution to Towson’s overcrowded schools. Since we began in January 2008, our membership has grown daily, and now includes parents from every public school in Towson.
We have made great progress in gaining elementary school seats. After five months of letter writing, phone calls, rallies and meetings, the Baltimore County Board of Education announced in May plans for a new elementary school to be located next to the Ridge Ruxton special-needs school on Charles Street. Just as important, the county executive has indicated he will fund the project.
But that only gets us about half the seats we need to meet the county’s enrollment projections for the next few years. So we’re continuing to advocate for more seats, as well as exploring our needs at the middle- and high-school level. After all, our elementary school children are only going to get older.
